Katse Dam is a popular holiday destination, situated in the Maliba-mats’o River. This is the highest dam in Africa, also one of the world’s ten largest concrete arch dams in terms of volume, with a capacity of nearly 2 billion cubic meters and a surface area of 38.5 square kilometers. The dam provides in the region of 72 megawatts of electricity for Lesotho and earns millions in revenue for supplying South Africa with water. The construction of the Katse Dam started in February 1991 and was completed in May 1997.
